If there were any artist deserving of the title of ‘Queen of Maritime Blues’, few would argue with giving the crown to Dieppe, NB’s Theresa Malenfant. Theresa has been performing to packed, appreciative audiences for over 30 years, serving up distinctively powerful soul, in the tradition of her heroes Janis Joplin and Etta James.
Her many accolades help to tell the story. In 1994 and 1995, Theresa won the East Coast Music Award for Best Female Artist. Her Little Girl Blue album, featuring songs originally recorded by Janis Joplin, was awarded nominations for Female Artist of the Year at The Maple Blues Awards in 1997 and 1998. This was followed by five years in Europe where her fan base grew to include strong followings in Belgium and Holland. Theresa’s career in the 2000’s has included more awards and nominations, and more well received recordings, including a ‘Best Of’ release and a live album. In 2015 she was awarded Lifetime Achievement at Maple Blues Awards and in 2019 she and Scott Medford won second place at the IBC International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee.
If you like hearing the blues coming from deep inside an artist’s soul, you will be captivated by the force and passion of a Theresa Malenfant performance.
