Blues Series: Campbell & Johnston

Christine Campbell and Blake Johnston are respective powerhouses of the guitar, and their commitment to the instrument is executed through a pair of true, rock n roll hearts. A Campbell and Johnston show is not just a conversation between two instruments--its two souls communicating through blistering riffs and fearless soloing. Meanwhile, Christine and Blake get behind the material with vocals ranging from sweet to monumental. Campbell and Johnson pepper their shows with a mix of potent originals, and a walk through the classic rock songbook, where Deep Purple and The Allman Brothers are fair game.
With opening sets for artists like Steve Earle and Bob Segar, and a mantle full of industry awards under their belts, it’s no wonder why maritime fans are singing their praises. Come to Dolan’s Pub this February, and prepare to be blown away by the power of a Campbell and Johnston performance.

He turned heads with his debut full-length album “Party Music” and has demonstrated tremendous growth and exploration, making an emphatic statement with his sophomore album “East of Nowhere” in 2021.
Fowlie continues to evolve his craft as not only a singer, songwriter, recording artist, and touring performer but also as a music educator, mentor, and content creator. He spends the balance of his time with family or exploring the world on two wheels with the wind in his face.

Blues Series: Stevie Ray Vaughn Tribute

Just five weeks after the release of his debut LP, Texas Flood, Austin guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughn was already well on his way to cementing his status as a giant of the blues. However, when he crossed the border for a sweltering July date in 1983 at the fabled El Mocambo in Toronto, a legend was born.
Stevie Ray Vaughn Live at The El Mocambo is a historic set that included scorching originals mixed with covers from blues titans like Buddy Guy, Howlin’ Wolf, Lonnie Mack and John Lee Hooker. The night also extended to rock’s lineage by including three Jimi Hendrix covers, proving that Stevie Ray was part of an exciting new breed, complete with it’s own set of reference points. As for the performance itself, it was delivered with a fire and passion that was uniquely Stevie’s and arced from emotionally raw to fiercely powerful.
On March 13th, join us at Dolan’s Pub as our winter blues series continues with a faithful recreation of this legendary live performance, on its 40th anniversary, along with a bonus set of SRV favourites. Connor Fox and Jonnie Price hold up their end of the bargain by leading the guitar charge, while Jamie Guitar and Andrew DeMerchant anchor the night in their respective roles as Double Trouble. This show is a ‘must-see’ for any fan of the guitar.

Blues Series: Theresa Malenfant and The Instigators

If there were any artist deserving of the title of ‘Queen of Maritime Blues’, few would argue with giving the crown to Dieppe, NB’s Theresa Malenfant. Theresa has been performing to packed, appreciative audiences for over 30 years, serving up distinctively powerful soul, in the tradition of her heroes Janis Joplin and Etta James.
Her many accolades help to tell the story. In 1994 and 1995, Theresa won the East Coast Music Award for Best Female Artist. Her Little Girl Blue album, featuring songs originally recorded by Janis Joplin, was awarded nominations for Female Artist of the Year at The Maple Blues Awards in 1997 and 1998. This was followed by five years in Europe where her fan base grew to include strong followings in Belgium and Holland. Theresa’s career in the 2000’s has included more awards and nominations, and more well received recordings, including a ‘Best Of’ release and a live album. In 2015 she was awarded Lifetime Achievement at Maple Blues Awards and in 2019 she and Scott Medford won second place at the IBC International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee.
If you like hearing the blues coming from deep inside an artist’s soul, you will be captivated by the force and passion of a Theresa Malenfant performance.

Rik Reese Band

Every highway has its share of bumps, but Rik Reese and his band sure know how to dodge and swerve. Coined by their fans and peers as one of the hardest working bands in Atlantic Canada, Rik Reese Band had had their share of triumphs and tragedies. A highlight in the band's career was in 2011 when they opened for Country Superstar Toby Keith, but tragedy struck just hours later when their bassist; Pete King, was killed in a motorcycle/moose collision returning from the show. Today, a corner stone of the Cavendish Beach Music Festival Main Stage has been engraved as a Pete memorial; the stage of his final performance.

Through perseverance and fan support, the Rik Reese band has come out swinging with a stellar line up of committed and talented musicians. From intimate, acoustic shows to large scale festivals, Rik's a natural performer who connects with his audience and the solid musicianship and passion of the band fills the stage at every performance. As CMT Host Casey Clarke said: "These guys are all about the live show".
